Outstanding text-user friendly for students!

In a textbook review process designed for ABSN students on March 23, 2006, at the Duke School of Nursing, students reviewed, rated and chose this new text as their textbook for their summer 2006 course: The Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family.

As the course coordinator, I have become increasingly frustrated with the ongoing complaints of students about the size and "massive" amounts of material presented in the classic, maternity nursing text books. In frustration and in an attempt to be more sensitive to the adult learners (the ABSN students) I organized a team of 8 students who reviewed 12 contemporary maternity texts published or reissued in the last 12 months.

Hands down this was the #1 student choice. Students cited: the concise format, synthesis of core information, easy to understand nursing actions, readable charts, illustrations accompanied by real pictures, small size, and attractive cover as reasons for their choice. One students summed it up when she said, "When I look at this text book, I just know I can read it. It does not feel so overwhelming to me as a student."

While the author says it was designed for students in an ADN program, I would say it would be suitable for any beginning student. It has a very usuable on-line review section for students and a CD that accompanies the book.

While the vote is not in if the students will read the assigned readings in this text, I am confident that I am starting out the course with a text that is at least "user friendly" to students. I am very pleased with the choice of this textbook and would recommend it be given a review by maternity faculty and students.

Are we talking about the same OB book?

I am surprised to see good reviews for this book. I found this book extremely useless after using it for my OB class this past fall. Besides the countless grammar and illustrated errors, the charts were hard to follow and sometimes went over multiple pages - sideways! Trying to copy them so I could take them with me to study was a nightmare. The one time I relied on the book and not my professors notes - I got a C on the test! The pictures for ROA LOA were wrong and it went over fetal monitoring minimally.

I guess it is an easy read when almost every topic has a bulleted list. It makes select all that applies pop up every where...

The pros... it was a decent size - not nearly as big as my med surge book.

My recommendation? Buy the book used even tho there is a newer version just to read to be prepared for class. Otherwise, don't waste $105 like I did buying it new in August.

A quick read

I had to read this book for a nursing class I took at the University of Michigan. We had 5 weeks in which to read all but a couple of chapters. A lot of the information seemed repetitive. You can get the full text online by registering the code that you scratch off on the inside of the book. I imagine this would be a good book to have on hand to use as a reference. I decided not to keep it, and sold it after the course finished.

Using this context, she examines how shifting notions of environmental justice inspire divergent views about nuclear power’s sustainability and equally divisive forms of social activism.��Drawing on extensive fieldwork conducted in rural isolated towns such as Monticello, Utah, and Nucla and Naturita, Colorado, as well as in upscale communities like Telluride, Colorado, and incorporating interviews with community leaders, environmental activists, radiation regulators, and mining executives, Malin uncovers a fundamental paradox of the nuclear renaissance: the communities most hurt by uranium’s legacy—such as high rates of cancers, respiratory ailments, and reproductive disorders—were actually quick to support industry renewal. She shows that many impoverished communities support mining not only because of the employment opportunities, but also out of a personal identification with uranium, a sense of patriotism, and new notions of environmentalism. But other communities, such as Telluride, have become sites of resistance, skeptical of industry and government promises of safe mining, fearing that regulatory enforcement won’t be strong enough. Indeed, Malin shows that the nuclear renaissance has exacerbated social divisions across the Colorado Plateau, threatening social cohesion. Malin further illustrates ways in which renewed uranium production is not a socially sustainable form of energy development for rural communities, as it is utterly dependent on unstable global markets.�

Melik a Turkish-French millionaire was being cheated by the company Louisa worked for, but he had been so taken with Louisa that he had almost been robbed.
Melik immediately obtained Louisa as his secretary, and it turned out that it was a life saver for him, because Louisa wouldn't let Lectron take advantage of Melik.

An Interesting Twist On a Familiar Theme

Helen Brooks delivers a slightly different version of her sheik novels. The hero, a sheik businessman, falls in love at first sight with a beautiful blonde he sees in a crowded marketplace. Later he finds out she works with the British company he is working with to merge with his own Turkish company. The road to HEA is really rocky for this couple. I first read this book in a 3-in-1 with 2 other sheik stories.

There are a couple of good ones. But is over loading of information

There are so many gurus in karate school land to tell you how to run your dojo. I was listening to and reading everyone's advice. There are a couple of good ones. But is over loading of information. Oh you need a billing comp you need this and that. I said forget it. The only only one I trust is mike Massie. . I listen to all his podcast and I feel like I know him and i never met him. I was on the fence about a billing comp. he talked me out if it in his podcast. Mike has been there and done what I'm trying to do. He teaches you without trickery or deceit but with honesty and truth and giving a service. I hD a small small dojo for years I just opened a 3000 sq ft which u got a better deal with rent then my smaller place in a great neighborhood , I went all out with new mats and fix the a/c unit. But when I get settled I'm DEFINITELY going to join his monthly course. Right now I'm pretty strapped. I know he would say that's why I need it now. But $$$$. Thank you mike. You are GREAT. To date, I have purchased three of Mike Massie's Amazon Kindle books: "The Profit-Boosting Principles", "The Best of Martial Arts Business Daily" and "How to Teach Martial Arts Using a Rotating Curriculum in Your Karate School." I am very happy with the information presented in them. It has been difficult to find good financial benchmarks and best practices for the martial arts industry.
