5-Stars
By Turtleman
I don't usually review books, but felt compelled to say something about this one because I have never read anything like it. The Phoenix Apostles is a combination of a conventional thriller with new age, cutting edge science, and fascinating historical elements. Even now that I have finished the book, I can't help but think about it and some of the scenes that replay in my head. The graphic parts are not gratuitous, but in my opinion, masterfully crafted with reality. I appreciated that kind of honesty in this book----there is no romanticizing of death and tragedy or glossing over it. The story in itself is an incredible ride. I'd get to the end of one chapter and instead of closing the book, I had to read "just one more." It was like that from the first page on. I hope that Sholes and Moore will give us more of Seneca Hunt.

INCREDIBLE READ!!!!
By J. Oliver
Sholes and Moore just keep getting better and better. I've read all their Cotten Stone series and was expecting the new series to probably be a disappointment. I was even thinking that maybe they were just going to recycle Cotten Stone. When I began reading The Phoenix Apostles I thought my prediction had been right. But no way. The new main character, Seneca Hunt, had some of Cotten's attributes, but as I kept reading she came into her own and deserves her own series. Sholes and Moore have put together an almost unimaginable plot. Wow, is all I can say. I'll read anything these two authors write. I have to be careful not to put a spoiler in this review, but there is one scene that knocked me off the sofa. I don't often squeal during a movie scene when the bad guy comes out from around the dark corner, but there was a scene in this book that made me jump and I almost flung the book across the room. I won't tell which one it was because I don't want to ruin it for any other reader. When the authors teamed up a magazine journalist and a best-selling author to search for who was responsible for stealing the remains of history's biggest mass murders, I was hooked. And the way they started the book was amazing. Never saw it coming! I have to give this one a 5 star!

Sholes and Moore introduce a new heroine
By Debra Hamel
The authors of the Cotten Stone series of religious thrillers introduce a new heroine in The Phoenix Apostles. Seneca Hunt is a reporter covering an archaeological dig in Mexico City, the examination by remote camera of the recently discovered tomb of Montezuma II, when her life is upended by an explosion. But what looks initially like a terrorist act turns out to be far more complicated. There's a would-be messiah out to save the world by unsavory means, and he's rounding up apostles to give him a hand--the canonical twelve, but he's not simply calling them from their fishing boats to come join him. This messiah uses cutting-edge technology to form his posse. The fate of the world is very much at stake. Mix in a love interest, some black ops intrigue, an ailing mother, daddy issues, and a hint of The Boys from Brazil, and you've got a really fun page turner. The dialogue can be a little stilted, but otherwise I really liked the book, and I'd like to see more of Seneca in future titles.
