A well writen, concise travel guide.

This is a travel guide to Belgium’s Senne River Valley, home of Lambic beer. Tim Webb is one of the UK’s leading beer writers and Chris Pollard runs a travel company that conducts bus tours of Belgium. In the first half of the book, Webb writes a good history of Lambic beer, provides a good discussion of its flavor profile and how it is made and gives an excellent overview of Lambic producers and their beers. The second half of the book covers the essentials of Lambic tourism, describing the cafes, bars and breweries, how to get around and where to stay. For the fan of beer interested in Lambic beer the book provides an interesting and concise introduction and should be helpful for the tourist looking to enjoy the area. While I recommend the book, I would not spend more than $15 for it.

Excellent book, but needs a digital version.

I recently borrowed this book from a friend to do some research for an upcoming trip to this region. The book is well written, gives a brief but concise explanation of the style, the history and the region, and then provides a lot of detailed and helpful information on each brewery/blender, the beers that they produce, and where you can find them to drink and buy around the area. It even provides a list of places to ship beer home from, as well as "beer and breakfast" places to stay at for a more intimate experience of the area. Everything you would want is provided without any of the "fluff." The only thing that I would add is information on when each Lambic maker is open for visiting (hours of operation are provided for many of the cafes, however), so day trips could be easily planned out.
This book would be perfect as a digital reference guide to have with you on your phone and/or tablet while traveling to the area. I attempted to purchase a digital copy, but quickly discovered that it was not available in that format. At the time of writing this review, it also appears to be out of print here on Amazon. If it does become available, and you don't mind lugging around various paperback books with you while you travel (or do not intend to use it as a travel guide), I would recommend this book very much. It provides all of the information you want without any of the fluff.
